The Malta International Music Festival is celebrating the 145th birth anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff with a concert in Valletta tonight.

The works of the Russian pianist, composer and conductor, who passed away 75 years ago, are among the most popular of the Romantic period.

 Russian piano virtuoso Nikolai Lugansky, in Malta for the first time, will perform the famous Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sergey Smbatyan.

Other works included in tonight’s programme are Vocalise for Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Dances, Op. 45.

The concert is being held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, today at 8pm. Tickets may be obtained from http://showshappening.com .
