Catania v Juventus

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has urged his team-mates to produce a repeat of last weekend's performance when they visit Catania tomorrow although he admits Champions League qualification may be beyond them now.

The Bianconeri boosted their faint hopes of finishing fourth with a 3-0 win over Bari in the last round.

However, they still lie sixth in the standings, six points behind Sampdoria, who hold the final Champions League qualifying spot, and only a point above seventh-placed Napoli.

With only three games left to play, Chiellini knows their chances of catching Samp are slim but is keen to ensure Juve do not have to go through the Europa League qualifiers.

"We have these last three matches to do the best we can," he told the Juventus website. "Looking at the last few results, fourth place becomes very hard.

"We have to aim to finish fifth or sixth, being seventh could compromise our preparation for next season which, for us, has to be be that of our redemption.

"We want to finish in the best possible way and play as we did last Sunday against Bari."

Juve have had a woeful campaign and Chiellini admits it is perhaps one of the worst seasons in the illustrious club's great history.

The Bianconeri crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage and further flopped in the Europa League where a 4-1 defeat to Fulham dumped them out of the competition.

There has been little joy in Serie A either and a run of five defeats in six saw Alberto Zaccheroni replace the sacked Ciro Ferrara until the end of the season in January.

Chiellini knows they will have to do their utmost next season to put this year's miserable campaign firmly behind them.

He said: "After this disappointing season next year will certainly be one to redeem ourselves.

"We have all examined our conscience, we all have an opinion. We tell each other things in the dressing room.

"We could have given something more, now we have to understand our mistakes and improve for next season.

"We fell really down, this is maybe one of the most difficult seasons in Juventus' history."

Italy coach Marcello Lippi paid a visit to Juve's training ground on Friday.

Chiellini hopes it will serve not only as encouragement to Juve's Azzurri players but also to his other team-mates in the final three games of the season.

He added: !I want to end the season well with Juve and then think about the World Cup.

"Lippi came to visit us, I noticed he is already much focused and we will be focused too, as soon as the adventure starts."

Mohamed Sissoko, Sebastian Giovinco and Antonio Chimenti are sidelined while Zdenek Grygera, David Trezeguet and Mauro Camoranesi remain doubts.

Catania may have reached the magical 40-point mark widely considered sufficient to avoid relegation a fortnight ago.

But this year that tally could prove not quite enough as they are just five points off 18th-placed Atalanta.

Last week's performance at rock-bottom Livorno was simply abysmal as they crashed to a 3-1 defeat and the club were swift to react, imposing a media blackout and taking the team to a retreat from Thursday until tomorrow's game.

Cristian Llama, Gianvito Plasmati and Blazej Augustyn are injured and Ciro Capuano is suspended.

But top scorer Jorge Andres Martinez appears to have shaken off a muscular injury and could be fit enough to play some part.
