Former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff’s monument will soon be erected in Castille’s Square now that finishing works on the statue are in the final stages, Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said.

In a Facebook post, the minister thanked Heritage Malta employees, artist Noel Galea Bason and all involved in the project.

He also thanked Mr Mintoff’s family for their support.

This is the third attempt at a monument for the former Prime Minister after the first two, which had been intended to be abstract, were scrapped.

Mr Mintoff, a fiery and controversial prime minister, died in 2012.

The revamped Castille Square hosts monuments to other prime ministers and significant events.
