What is known as the Blue Monument Challenge is held in several countries, during which national monuments and buildings are lit in blue to mark World Diabetes Day.

Last year over 1,000 monuments across 80 countries were lit in blue.

Various photographers from the participating countries use the occasion to obtain unique shots of historic buildings in blue. These are then shared on various diabetes sites and related social media pages.

Auberge de Castille will be lit in blue tomorrow, eve of World Diabetes Day. The current list of all confirmed lightings across the world can be found on http://www.idf.org/blue-monument-challenge-2012

The Ministry for Health also pointed out that in order to mark World Diabetes Day, free blood glucose monitoring is being provided by various entities during these days.

This service will also be offered from all health centres tomorrow and on Wednesday between 08 a.m. and 5 p.m. and also from local health offices (bereg) during normal opening hours.

Mater Dei Hospital will also offer the same service on Wednesday at the Main Foyer between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
