Clint Cassar's team are the clear winners of this year's San Michel tournament for teams, played recently at the Tennis Club Kordin courts and sponsored by Simonds Farsons Cisk.

The tournament came to a close on May 30 with many followers of the teams in the final gathering around the three main courts to cheer their favourites.

Belli's team produced a spirited performance but in the end the balance tilted Cassar's way.

The start was not easy for the winning team and Belli's players went on to claim the first two sets in the Men D encounter.

Soon, Cassar's team drew level after winning the Men C encounters as both teams then won another point after a 1-1 draw in the Men B game.

Two consecutive wins for Cassar's team in the Ladies A and B categories made it clear where the honours were heading. They secured overall victory after a draw in the Men A event and another win from the last game in Ladies C.

It was evident that this year's winning team were particularly superior in ladies' events, winning all six sets in A, B and C. This fact swayed the result in favour of Cassar's selection.

The losing semi-finalists were the teams of Darren Buhagiar and Joe Vella.

The tournament director was Benny Vidal and Judith Ricci carried out all the office work throughout the three months of the tournament.

The presentation of the Shield and trophies will take place at the club on July 3.
