Kim Cassar will boost her ITF ranking by several places when the list is reviewed this week after winning the ITF Junior Tennis Tournament at the Marsa Sports Club yesterday. In the final, she beat Italy's Lorenza Steffanelli 6-2 6-0.

Cassar produced powerful strokes from both forehand and backhand sides, not allowing her opponent to settle down.

In the boys singles final, Adam Thornton, of Great Britain, had the better of Belgium's Jonas Merckyx 6-4 6-4.

British duo Robert Carter and Michael Watkins took the doubles title after they edged past Croatians Delic and Salapic 7-6 0-6 10-8 in a thrilling match.

In the girls' doubles final, Serbia's Jaksic and Stammatova, of Bulgaria, took the honours after they beat Borthwick and Henderson, of Great Britain.

Julian Mamo, representative of sponsors Gasan Mamo Ltd, and David Farrugia Sacco, president of the Malta Tennis Federation, distributed the trophies to the winners.

Go and San Michel were the other sponsors of the tournament.
