A cashier who stole small amounts from a supermarket over a number of months, accumulating up to €2,000, was yesterday given a conditional discharge.

The 19-year-old, Antonella Azzopardi, would steal a little cash from the till at Park Towers Supermarket in Sliema every so often, raking in €2,000 by the time she was caught on April 18, Police Inspector Robert Vella told the court.

In yesterday's district sitting, Ms Azzopardi pleaded guilty to stealing. Magistrate Antonio Mizzi conditionally discharged her for a year.

The magistrate also took into consideration the fact that she had already paid back €800 and gave her six months to pay back the rest.

Lawyers Marion Camilleri and Franco Debono appeared for Ms Azzopardi.
