A collection of paintings by Pawlu Grech are on exhibition at Casa Antonia Nursing and Residential Home, in Balzan. Entitled Rest-Rospection and curated by Amanda Tabone, the exhibition of abstract paintings ranges from Pawlu Grech’s early works in the 1960s to more recent ones.

Commenting on the artist, musician and composer, Silvio J. Camilleri said: “Grech is one of the few Maltese artists who embraced 20th century modernism.

“This characteristic is evident both in his music compositions and visual art. He can be classified among the forerunners of abstraction in Malta as shown by his paintings produced in the early 1960s.”

On welcoming the guests, Casa Antonia general manager Sarah Cassar said: “This is an extraordinary collection of paintings by one of our residents, Pawlu Grech. We support initiatives like this and encourage our residents to continue to participate in the social and cultural life.  Remaining active is important to enhance their quality of life while they enjoy the various good things this phase in life brings with it.”

Guests were also addressed by Balzan mayor Ian Spiteri. Pawlu’s former students, today established musicians and artists, were also present for the occasion.

Rest-Rospection is open for public viewing till July 7 at Casa Antonia, Balzan, between 10am and 7pm.
