The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) this week heard the appeals lodged by FIFA and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) against the decisions taken by the Malta FA in relation to the failed dope tests of Maltese footballers Claude Mattocks, Gilbert Martin and Ryan Grech last season.
The hearings at CAS's Lausanne base were held on Monday and Tuesday but the verdict in each of the three cases is expected within a month, sources have told The Times.
The world governing body of football and the World Anti-Doping Agency are calling on CAS to increase the bans on the three Maltese players to two years.
Mattocks, now playing for Marsaxlokk, has served the four-month ban imposed on him by the MFA after he tested positive for a prohibited substance.
Martin and Grech, who were on the books of Mosta and Tarxien Rainbows last season, also failed doping tests and had their one-year ban reduced to nine months on appeal.
The Malta Football Association was represented by lawyers Joe Mifsud and Peter Fenech, president and vice-president respectively, at the CAS hearings.
