As part of the European Commission’s awareness-raising campaign, ‘For Diversity, Against Discrimination’ (FDAD), art students are being invited to take part in the third edition of the ‘Cartoons for Diversity’ competition and exhibition.

Students in state, Church and private schools, as well as individual students aged 13-21 who are pursuing art on their own, are being invited to create images which raise interest and awareness on diversity and discrimination in the work place or other areas of life.

Entries must be original cartoons tackling diversity, exploring the positive impact of diversity as well as the negative effects of discrimination in one or more of the following aspects: racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age, and sexual orientation.

This year’s competition has two categories: one for established and non-established artists and another category specifically for students.

Participants may submit between one and five artworks each, out of which an experienced selection panel will select the exhibits that will be exposed in a public exhibition during February.

The most original cartoon in the students’ category will be awarded €400, with the runner up receiving €200. The winners will be announced during the official opening of the exhibition.

‘For Diversity, Against Discrimination’ is a pan-European information campaign run by the European Commission. In line with EU anti-discrimination laws which have come into force throughout the EU over the past few years, the campaign aims to promote the benefits of diversity and to combat discrimination in employment on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, disability and sexual orientation.

Rules and regulations for participation may be obtained by sending an e-mail to Carmel Bonello at carmel.bonello@bpc.com.mt or by calling 2124 3212.

Entries are to be handed in on weekdays between 8.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. at BPC International Limited, BPC House, J Gasan Street, Pieta’, by January 14.
