The nursery at Pembroke Athleta FC, in conjunction with the town’s local council, recently hosted the Travel Sport San Jaime Carnival Football Festival. Eight clubs took part in the U-11 competition and 12 in the U-14. The participating teams were Pembroke, Ħamrun Spartans, Mosta, Pietà Hotspurs, Żebbuġ Rangers, Floriana, San Ġwann, Birkirkara, Hibernians, Sirens, Melita, Balzan and the Malta FA Girls Academy. In all, 328 youngsters were involved in the tournament. The Pietà boys won the U-14 title after beating Melita 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw. Ħamrun placed third in the overall rankings after defeating hosts Pembroke 3-0 in the play-off for the losing semi-finalists. The organising committee of the Carnival Football Festival was led by Mark Pace.
