An evening defilè and dancing will be featured once again in St Anne Street, Floriana in this year's carnival, according to a programme issued yesterday by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.
Carnival kicks off in a month or so with activities taking place between February 12 and 16.
This year's carnival will likely see dancing competitions being held in Freedom Square, Valletta for the last time because the new Parliament is due to be built there.
The children's carnival will take place as usual on Saturday (February 13) and there will be a carnival band show in Valletta at four that afternoon. That will be followed by a defilè and dancing competitions.
Carnival floats will make their way to St Anne Street at 6.30 p.m. for the evening defilè and night carnival, which will also include the kukkanja near the Vilhena Monument, along with other activities such as games and live band gigs. This was held as an experiment last year and turned out to be a success.
The usual defilè will be held along the streets of Valletta on Sunday.
On the Monday, children's activities will take place in addition to a carnival band parade. Dancing competitions will follow and the defilè will take place in the evening. The same will happen again on the following Tuesday, when the grand finale in St Anne Street will bring Carnival 2010 to an end.
