Economy Minister Chris Cardona has failed to disclose to Parliament the earnings of three top executives falling under his ministerial portfolio despite repeated calls to do so.

Dr Cardona said the information “is still being gathered” after Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi requested details in March on the financial packages of Mimcol chairman Adrian Said; Mario Vella, former president of the Labour Party who was appointed chairman and CEO of Malta Enterprise; and Joshua Zammit, a former financial controller at Air Malta appointed chairman of Malta Industrial Parks soon after Labour’s electoral victory.

Dr Azzopardi followed up by tabling new parliamentary questions on the same topic.

Information is still being gathered

Almost four months on from when the first questions were tabled, Dr Cardona last week reiterated that he was not yet in a position to provide details and that “the information will be given to Parliament in another session”. However, he pointed out that Mr Said was a chairman without an executive function.

Under the previous legislature, ministers were repeatedly asked about the salaries related to the same posts in the same entities.

Then finance minister Tonio Fenech had told Labour MP Helena Dalli that the former chairman and CEO of Malta Industrial Parks and Malta Enterprise, Alan Camilleri, earned an annual salary of €70,000.

Mr Fenech had also told Labour MP Chris Agius that as chairman of Mimcol, Ivan Falzon received €37,759.
