Joe Carabott’s team are the winners of this year’s Pearl Simpatia Crai tournament at Tennis Club Kordin (TCK). His players emerged on top from a highly-contested final against the side captained by Doriana Portelli, last year’s winners.

Six teams, skippered by Carabott, Portelli, Joe Vella, Anthony Coleiro, Lucienne Meli Bellizzi and Esther Muscat, took part in a tournament where a friendly atmosphere prevailed throughout.

Competition was tight and it was clear from the outset that it was going to be difficult to forecast a winner. The teams led by Bellizzi and Muscat failed to make the last four and the beaten semi-finalists were the sides of Vella and Coleiro.

With the TCK courts teeming with supporters cheering their team, the most interesting final for the last few years got underway.

Carabott’s win in the Men C category helped him gain an early advantage which was cancelled out by Portelli’s win in Men A.

At that point, the last match in the Ladies A was to be crucial. Christine Schembri and Anna Vella Bonnici had the better of Charmaine Mifsud and Juanita Sapiano to tilt the balance in favour of Carabott’s team.

The presentation of trophies will be held at the club on December 11. In a statement, TCK thanked tournament director Benny Vidal and assistant Judith Ricci for their efforts.
