A young man was forced to jump to safety after his car plunged into the sea in Pietá yesterday.

The incident occurred in Marina Street, close to the former Sa’ Maison hotel, at around 2pm.

According to the police, the man, 19, lost control of his vehicle while driving in the direction of Valletta and crashed through the roadside barriers into the water.

The man reportedly managed to make his own way out of the sinking car.

He was hospitalised and treated for shock but suffered no other injuries.
