A car crashed into a wall and overturned this morning after bursting a tyre in a pothole at Salina Road, in Naxxar.

Eyewitness John Portelli said the car was being driven from Naxxar towards Salina when it hit the pothole and had a blowout.

The driver lost control of the car, which hit a pavement and overturned. It only narrowly missed an oncoming truck and other cars, Mr Portelli said, adding that the car was not being driven at an excessive speed.

An ambulance took the driver to hospital for treatment to minor injuries and shock. Mr Portelli, who lives opposite, said the area was an accident black spot and that residents had been complaining to the authorities for years about the situation, but to no avail. “The only thing that happens is that every few years, the street lines are re-painted, only to last a couple of weeks.”

Meanwhile, merely hours after being reported on timesofmalta.com, the pothole was repaired.
