Sean Zammit, 21 of Birkirkara, the man arrested after a dramatic car chase last night, was remanded in custody this afternoon after being accused in court of driving without insurance and without a licence, breaching bail and attempting to seriously injure a policeman. He pleaded not guilty.

Zammit was arrested in Zebbug after being chased when he failed to stop when signalled to do so by a policeman in Attard. Officers of the mobile squad needed to fire a warning shot when he was blocked and tried to reverse his Mercedes onto a policeman.

In December 2011 Mr Zammit was arrested after another chase when he failed to stop in Gzira.

He was trapped when he drove into a street blocked by a crane. When he reversed his BMW he hit an elderly woman and two policemen.

In that case too, he was found to have been driving without a licence.
