An exhibition of some of the most interesting and important texts at the notarial archives is being put up at Cavalier House in Old Mint Street, Valletta, for the Notte Bianca event tonight.

The exhibition, being held on the initiative of Lands Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, will include the oldest archived notarial documents and various other important papers.

But the most important document will surely be the oldest record available of the Maltese language - Pietru Caxaro’s Cantilena.

This poem, which dates back to the mid 15th century, has not been exhibited in public for the past 10 years.

It had been discovered in 1966 by Prof. Geoffrey Wettinger and Fr Mikiel Fsadni.
