Cancer treatment costs financed by the Malta Community Chest Fund are increasing by 25 per cent every year, according to President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.

She said the financing of cancer treatment was not something that could be contained, describing it as a bottomless pit.

Ms Coleiro Preca was visiting the premises of the Hospice Movement, a respite care centre, in Balzan this morning.

Accompanied by her husband Edgar, the President called on the Maltese to continue being generous.

She thanked Hospice for the work they did with cancer patients and their relatives, adding that collaboration between the MCCF and Hospice should be strengthened.
