The late Mario Camilleri Junior was hit with a tile, stabbed and shot by his uncle Jason Galea, a court heard this morning.

The statement was made during the compilation of evidence against George Galea and Jason Galea, who are pleading not guilty to the murders of Mario Camilleri, 51, known as l-Imniehru and his 21-year-old son Mario Jnr.

Police Sergeant Jeffrey Gerada said that Jason Galea had told him these details during a one to one conversation at an office in the Criminal Investigation Department.

As PS Gerada was recounting what Jason Galea had told him and describing to the court the emotional state he was in, Jason Galea broke down in tears.

PS Gerada also said that George Galea had said in a statement that on the day of the murder he was asked by Jason Galea to accompany him as security when driving down to Marsaxlokk with Mr Camilleri Snr.

They arrived at a house in Tas-Silg, Jason got out of the car and knocked on the door of a villa in search of a notary. While he was out, Mr Camilleri, who was on the front seat, turned to George Galea and said in colloquial terms that if Jason Galea did not keep his word he would shoot him.

As he returned to the car, Jason Galea told Mr Camilleri to speak to one of their employees on the mobile phone, Mr Camilleri refused and Jason shot him twice in the head.

They later buried him in the field where he was found.

Jason Galea told George Galea that he was going to pay him half the €19,000 that he promised for helping him.

At one point Mr Camilleri Jnr arrived in a car that was being driven by a man known as Leli id-Deffien. Jason Galea called Mr Camilleri Jnr and when he arrived, Jason Galea grabbed him by the throat.

Mr Camilleri Jnr began kicking, Jason Galea hit him with his hands and then a tile, told George Galea to grab a gun from inside a small room in the field but George Galea refused. Jason Galea then started stabbing Mr Camilleri Jnr with a knife and he later shot him.

They put his body on a wheelbarrow but later decided to bury him alongside his father.

Lawyers Gianluca Caruana Curran, Steve Tonna Lowell, Joe Giglio, Shazoo Ghaznavi and Robert Galea appeared for the Galeas.

The case continues.
