The Malta Tenpin Bowling Association has just held its awards night during which the presentation of awards to the winning teams from the Middlesea League was held.

During the evening, youth champions Tiziana Carannante and Rankin Camilleri were also presented with trophies, both having successfully defended their titles in the annual Intermediate Championships at the Eden SuperBowl.

The qualifying round was played over two days with all competitors rolling 16 games, after which the top six qualified to the round robin stage which was followed by a stepladder final for the top three.

Camilleri and Carannante both led their respective divisions from the outset.

In spite of a couple of low games (167, 145), Camilleri was top on 1,575 after eight games and stayed there with a 3,114 tally from 16.

Joining him in the next stage were Carl Borg, Nathan Brimmer, Matthew Cossai, James Vassallo and Dean Micallef.

Camilleri continued his domination, winning four of his five round robin games meaning the addition of valuable bonus points, easily keeping him top and sure of a place in the final match.

Micallef and Vassallo, second and third respectively, met in the first stepladder encounter. That was a closely contested game, but Micallef prevailed 182-171, meaning he would face top seed Camilleri in the final.

Being the underdog, Micallef knew he would have to beat Camilleri twice to claim the title while a single win would be enough for his opponent.

In fact, he managed to take a scrappy first game 138-156, before Camilleri came back strongly to take the second 194-139 and so hang on to his crown.

After the first eight games Carannante held a slim 19-pin lead over the rest of the field but improved to 2,935 on Day Two ahead of Christabel Grima's 2,845. The other four to advance were Cynthia Duca, Stephanie Said, Luisa Buttigieg and Stephanie Duca.

Carannante held her dominant position by also winning four of her five encounters. She was joined in a the finals by Said and Cynthia Duca. The latter was eliminated in a close semi-final which went 185-179 to Said.

In the final, Carannante only needed one game to make sure of victory, easily defeating Said 200-149 to retain her title.
