A Cameroonian woman was this morning jailed for a year and fined €6,150 after she pleaded guilty to trying to leave the island €24,000 in her handbag.

Grace Ngome, 39, who holds Dutch citizenship, had originally claimed she did not know the money came from illegal activity.

Today, Ms Ngome pleaded guilty to money laundering and trying to leave the island with more than the legal limit of €10,000.

Ms Ngnome was also ordered to pay some €2,000 in court experts’ fees and had the sum of €18,055 confiscated by the courts.
