Marsaxlokk 1
St George's 0

Marsaxlokk crowned an excellent 2009-10 season when yesterday they completed the double after beating St George's 1-0 in the final of the Maltco Division One KO at the Hibs Stadium.

It was far from a comfortable victory for the southerners who found some stiff resistance from the Saints until William Camenzuli rammed home the winner midway through the second half.

The game started with both sides playing some fast and flowing football. St George's were the team who threatened first when Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Glenn Zammit saved well a Josef Dalli cross-shot.

Marsaxlokk replied through Camenzuli's shot that was palmed away to a corner by Thomas Galea. From the resulting corner it was Galea again who parried the ball away with difficulty with the aid of the crossbar.

St George's were dangerous on 26 minutes with Glenn Bonello practically missing a sitter by shooting wide after some good work but Dalli. A minute earlier Ewurun found Sciberreas who drove the ball inches over the crossbar.

Play did not change much in the second 45 minutes with Marsaxlokk increasing pressure. On 51 minutes a Clive Brincat header finished just wide, and at the other end a Bonello drive ended just over.

Patrick Curmi made a risky substitution on 55 minutes, which worked wonders - Martin Deanov entered the fray for Dylan Kokavessis and minutes later Marsaxlokk came close when a Camenzuli piledriver just missed the target.

But the Marsaxlokk defender did not miss on the hour when after dribbling past two defenders hit a low and hard drive from the edge of the area leaving Galea helpless.

Now it was all Marsaxlokk and five minutes later Anthony Bonello was lucky not to commit an own goal, with the ball hitting the foot of the post.

On 68 minutes Deanov found Galabov who was foiled by Galea following a close range effort.

St George's tried to force a late rally but they only had a Gordon Mallia shot that was blocked by Zammit to show as Marsaxlokk held on to the win.

After the match MFA vice-president Carmel Bartolo presented the trophy to Marsaxlokk captain Malcolm Licari.
