The Sustainable Energy and Water Conservation Unit (SEWCU) within the Ministry for Energy has issued an international call for tender for a study on a pipeline for natural gas between Malta and Gela in Sicily.

The consultant winning this tender will be required to identify the best 1.2km wide route through a detailed study including conceptual design of the pipeline and land-based infrastructure; identify the connection points, onshore routes and sites for the terminal stations in both Gela and Delimara.

The study would also include a hydraulic analysis and a cost estimation based on the identified route.

The consultant will also be required to identify the main requirements of the Italian permit granting procedure and prepare the necessary documentation to initiate the pre-application permitting process in both Malta and Italy.

This study is expected to take 18 months.

The closing date for the tender is July 14. https://www.etenders.gov.mt/epps/cft/listContractDocuments.do?resourceId=1675719
