Students, schools and local councils are invited to submit proposals for innovative water harvesting projects to be supported by the HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop campaign. Proposals must be submitted by December 18.

Some of the winning projects already implemented under the campaign range from use of urns that filter rainwater to the installation of water-saving Hippo bags in a school’s flushing system.

The campaign recently held a workshop for teachers from all primary and secondary schools on how to submit suitable proposals. A workshop for local councils will be held separately.

In the 2013-14 scholastic year, the campaign received 30 proposals, of which 21 secured grants under the campaign.

In 2014-15, 23 projects from schools and three from local councils were selected for implementation.

Now in its third year, HSBC Catch the Drop is the largest national environmental and educational campaign of its kind in Malta. Its various activities aim to reach 50,000 students by next year.

The theme for this year’s campaign is water harvesting in schools and local councils.
