The Marsa local council is asking for security cameras to be installed on bridges in the locality, after a car was damaged by a stone thrown from the bridge on December 13 Road.

The incident happened late on Thursday as the car was being driven to pick up Opposition leader Simon Busuttil from the airport.

The stone damaged the windscreen and dented the roof but no one was injured. The case was reported to the police.

The council said this was not an isolated incident and said unknown individuals were hurling items onto oncoming vehicles – a dangerous practice which could cause a fatality

The council was suggesting the installation of cameras to deter or at least to help identify the perpetrators, it said in a statement.

The incident was condemned by the Labour Party and by Speaker of the House, Anġlu Farrugia. Both called on anyone with information about the incident to inform the police.

Meanwhile, a reader told the Times of Malta that a similar incident happened to him on that road – also on Tuesday.
