Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has denied allegations in the Spanish media that he had misused a club credit card.

Daily El Mundo reported that Calderon had used the credit card at an exclusive health club in London in August and also to settle golf and veterinary bills.

Calderon said at a news conference the report was false and he was being targeted by what he called "mafiosi, delinquents and people without scruples".

"I don't know who is behind this but they will not beat me in this way," a visibly angry Calderon said.

Adriano left out again by Mourinho

Brazilian striker Adriano has been left out of Inter's squad for a second consecutive Serie A game after angering coach Jose Mourinho with indiscipline.

Adriano will miss today's visit to bottom side Reggina after being dropped for Wednesday's goalless draw with Fiorentina amid media reports that he had been sent home for a late show at training.

"If anyone has devoted themselves to him, not just as a coach but also with the heart of a work mate, I am that person," the former Chelsea and Porto boss told a news conference.

"But we must not forget that there's a group in which there are rules. Naturally Adriano would have been important for tomorrow's match, but there are principles that come first."

Siena keen on Brazilian Ronaldo

Siena are trying to tempt Brazilian striker Ronaldo back to Serie A with a pay-per-goal deal, club president Giovanni Lombardi Stronati has said.

The 32-year-old free agent has been on a rehabilitation programme at Brazilian side Flamengo since August and has almost fully recovered from a career-threatening knee injury he suffered playing for Milan in February.

"Signing Ronaldo is an idea we are working on," Lombardi Stronati told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I've spoken to his manager and proposed a contract of €100,000 ($130,600) per goal. Ronaldo's goals could save Siena."

Maradona expects warm welcome

Diego Maradona believes his 'Hand of God' goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, will guarantee him a hero's welcome at Hampden next month.

The Argentina legend has announced he will make his debut as his country's national coach against Scotland on November 19.

"I'm going to a country where they adore me because of the goal against the English," Maradona said.

"The English and the Scots get on horribly - serious bad blood.

"But now we are going to play a game against Scotland, where they are going to treat us well."

Ronaldo hopeful on Ballon d'Or

Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo said it would be logical if he won the Ballon d'Or award this year after helping Manchester United win the Champions League and Premier League double last season.

"Yes, you could say it would be logical and that is how I feel," Ronaldo told L'Equipe.

"There are several candidates but the winner must be the player who has been the best during the whole year. I have been very consistent, I won the Premier League, I won the Champions League, I have been the leading scorer in Europe and the Champions League's leading scorer," he added.

The 2008 Ballon d'Or will be awarded on Dec. 2.

Lampard's best says Terry

Chelsea captain John Terry has described Frank Lampard as the best midfielder in the country after his stunning goal set Chelsea on the way to victory over Hull on Wednesday.

"Frank does it season after season," declared Terry. "He is different class. In training he is unbelievable and he works so hard on his shooting and his running off the ball.

"We will do a warm-down and he will be doing laps around the field on his own. He is an inspiration to everyone in the team to really push on and give it everything in our short careers."

Ballack to remain Germany captain

Michael Ballack will remain captain of Germany's national team after apologising for his public criticism of coach Joachim Loew, the German FA (DFB) said.

"Joachim Loew and Michael Ballack were able to establish a new basis of trust during their private meeting in Frankfurt on Thursday and Michael Ballack will therefore remain team captain," the DFB said in a statement.

Ballack flew to Frankfurt at Loew's request to discuss comments made to a German newspaper about the way team-mate Torsten Frings was dropped from the country's last two World Cup qualifiers.

Ballack had already issued a public statement ahead of the meeting, saying that he would apologise to Loew.
