Cagliari president Massimo Cellino has threatened to scupper AC Milan's plans to appoint coach Massimiliano Allegri in order to fulfil his desire for revenge.

Cellino relieved Allegri of his duties as Cagliari coach in April and he was replaced by George Melis until the end of the season.

Milan have made no secret of the fact they want Allegri as Leonardo's replacement and confirmed yesterday they will install him as soon as they get the green light from Cagliari.

However, Cellino has been left fuming by Allegri's behaviour and admits he is tempted not to release the 42-year-old, whose contract runs for another year.

"After the end of George Melis' mandate, Allegri is to all effect the coach of Cagliari," Cellino told regional newspaper L'Unione Sarda.

"He was also called up to our headquarters but he has never been seen, he submitted a medical certificate.

"I am angry with him because he gave up, forcing us into a mediocre end of our season, while I expected much more.

"I was upset, I'm not hiding the fact that I want to take revenge.

"I could keep him out for a year until the end of his contract, it is a hypothesis that really tempts me and is not to be ruled out."
