CABS - The Committee Against Bird Slaughter - alerted the police yesterday after its volunteers found illegal finch trapping at the Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park near  Manikata.

Two 15-metre long clap nets and three live Linnets - a protected bird species - were confiscated by the police.

The trapper managed to escape before the police reached the site, but investigations to reveal his identity are ongoing.

The park is a Special Area of Conservation (SPA) of international importance within the Natura 2000 network of sites as per the European Habitats Directive.
