CABS, the Committee Against Bird Slaughter, said today that during a Christmas camp in Sardinia from December 26 to January 5, its volunteers found and destroyed  990 snare traps for songbirds and a further 59 wire traps for deer and wild boars.

One poacher was arrested after being filmed him handling illegal traps and dead protected birds.

When one included the results of two previous operations on Sardinia in November and early December 2013, the volunteers had dismantled a total of 7,476 snare traps, 162 wire traps and two mist nets in this season, CABS said.
