The Cabinet this morning decided the details for the privatisation of yacht marinas currently operated by the Malta Maritime Authority, the Ministry of the Infrastructure,Transport and Communications said.

The marinas at Msida, Ta’Xbiex and Mgarr will be privatised after a call for interest is made by the Privatisation Unit. The three marinas have a total of some 1,000 berths out of a total of 1,635 for all of Malta.

Offers will be received for the management of the marinas on lease for 25 years. Interested companies will be asked to submit plans for investment and the provision of services, as well as the tariffs they will charge.

The government explained that in this way, the role of the MMA would be solely that of regulator.

At the same time, fresh efforts would be made for the development of new marinas in line with the government's vision to see this sector grow in a competitive environment..
