PN leader Simon Busuttil said today with regard to the election of the PN deputy leader that he would not associate himself with any one person seeking a post within the Nationalist Party.

He was replying to questions on whether he wanted to see Mario de Marco as deputy leader and what his position was with regard to Beppe Fenech Adami, who has already declared himself as a candidate.

Dr Busuttil said that since the post was filled by election he did not wish to associate himself with any one person.

However whoever was interested in serving the party in that position should step forward and contest.

Replying to another question on whether the PN should have two deputy leaders, Dr Busuttil said that to date, the party statute only provided for one deputy leader.

Asked specifically about Dr de Marco, Dr Busuttil said Dr de Marco had made an act of loyalty when together with others he contested the leadership election and his result deserved respect. He would make a good deputy leader in the same way as there were other persons who could be deputy leader.

REACTION TO PL GREETING

In a reaction to the PL congratulatory message and its call for him to end 'us and them' politics, Dr Busuttil said it was the PL who was adopting us and them politics as evidenced by the appointments to government boards, where the criterion appeared to be people's appearance on PL billboards or participation in Labour mass meetings.
