Simon Busuttil yesterday stressed the importance of honesty and transparency in relations between Malta and China during a meeting with Chinese deputy Foreign Minister Yang Chao.

The meeting took place on the second day of the Opposition leader’s visit to China on the invitation of the Communist Party.

He is accompanied by a delegation that includes deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami and foreign affairs spokesman Tonio Fenech.

Dr Busuttil also underlined the importance of strong EU-China relations, saying the PN was able to offer its support through its representation in EU institutions.

Mr Chao expressed satisfaction at the strong relationship between the two countries and thanked Malta for its role in the evacuation of Chinese citizens during the Libyan crisis of 2011.
