A businessman this morning recalled an attack on him in 1981 when a petard was thrown at him following a meeting in Floriana.

Testifying, Michael Mallia, ruled out that the attack may have been set up by General Workers’ Union general secretary Tony Zarb, saying he did not know him at the time.

He was testifying in a libel case filed by Mr Zarb against Vince Farrugia, the former director general of the Malta Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises – GRTU.

Mr Zarb claimed comments made by Mr Farrugia on national television implied that he had instigated the throwing of a firework at Mr Mallia.
