A businessman was this afternoon jailed for six years after a jury found him guilty of the attempted murder of a business partner. The jury had said the act was excusable in the eyes of the law.

Giosuè Gauci had been accused of the attempted murder of Ronald Azzopardi on February 8, 2005, in Sliema.

The jurors returned a 6-3 guilty verdict. Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono is handing down sentence said the court had considered that the victim had forgiven the accused, and that Mr Gauci was generous to charities.
