Between Christmas Day and January 6, buses will operate on a Saturday time schedule Mondays to Fridays and as usual on Saturday, Malta Public Transport said.

It said in a statement this was being done in an attempt to strike a balance between the needs of passengers and employees.

The company said that service on routes that normally operated only during weekdays, namely 49, 50 and 90, would still be provided.

As in previous years, the service would operate a reduced service on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Buses would stop operating at lunch time and the service would be suspended between noon and 3pm, with the last buses departing between 10 and 11.30pm, depending on the length of the trip. Services would resume normal operation between 3 and 4pm. Last evening services would terminate at 9pm.

The company said its ticket booths would be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
