Malta Public Transport carried 15 per cent more passengers in the first three months of the year when compared to the same period last year, the company announced today.

The 10.4 million passengers who made trips on MPT buses reflected increases across all customer segments, with increased tourist trips and a 10 per cent increase in passengers using personalised Tallinja cards.

Frequent passengers - those who made more than 60 trips over the three-month period - increased by seven per cent, the company said, with student tallinja card use also up by 12 per cent.

“We are very pleased to see a consistent growth in the use of our service, with more and more people using the bus. This is very encouraging, and continues to motivate us to invest further in our service," said MPT general manager Konrad Pulé.

MPT said it would be introducing additional buses in the coming months as well as a number of special direct services.
