Thieves managed to break into St Lawrence parish church in Vittoriosa last night, but they got away with nothing other than some coins from collection boxes.

The break-in followed the usual method of climbing on scaffolding, which was on the facade of a private property adjoining the church. Once on the roof, the thieves broke down a door and gained access to the church.

But with all gold and precious items having been removed as a precaution, they only got away with two collection boxes containing some coins.

Thieves earlier this year climbed scaffolding and stole precious items from Cospicua church. The items have been been recovered and arraignments have been made.

A similar burglary was made at Zejtun church.
