A 15-year-old suspected burglar was arrested by Rapid Intervention Police early yesterday morning as he ran away from a stolen car, but the two young men he was with managed to escape.

The police said a 41-year-old woman was sitting on the doorstep of her house in Triq Il-Ġnien, Gżira, at about 4am.

Three young men turned up, pushed her into the house and threatened her and another woman, aged 68, who was with her, according to the police statement.

The men allegedly stole two knives, a mobile phone, €50 in cash and some keys, including a set of car keys, and then used the keys to steal the car, a Peugeot 306.

The women filed a police report and RIU officers on patrol spotted the car in Tower Road, Sliema.

The car stopped and the three youths ran off, but the police managed to catch the 15-year-old, who is from St Paul’s Bay.
