Bulgaria coach Luboslav Penev said today he has studied Malta in great detail ahead of tomorrow's (Sunday's) Euro 2016 Group H qualifier at the Vassil Levski Stadium (kick-off 8.45pm).

The game has become a make-or-break affair for Penev who has come in for a lot of criticism after back-to-back defeats to Croatia and Norway in Group H.

"We have studied Malta very carefully and we know it's going to be a tough game," Penev told reporters.

"Our team has not been playing to the best if its capabilities but we really have to be at our best to win this game."

Penev acknowledged that tomorrow's qualifier has taken on added significance for Bulgaria.

"It is very important," Penev said of the match.

"For me it makes no difference who the opponents are. The important thing for the team is to win the game."

Penev is hoping that Bulgaria rediscover the scoring form they showed when hammering Malta 6-0 in a World Cup qualifier last year.

"We are a team that creates a lot of chances but we are having problems converting them," Penev said.

"When we beat Malta 6-0, it was one of the few games where we managed to take almost all our chances.

"I hope that we repeat that performance."
