The planning authority gave its go-ahead for a full development permit to rebuild the Les Lapins Hotel in Ta’ Xbiex.

The hotel, which will have 46 rooms as opposed to the original 88, will be built right next to the blocks of apartments on the seafront.

After the original hotel was demolished in 2004, a series of apartments going by the name Blue Harbour, were built.

The hotel will be on a smaller footprint, but in line with the apartments. The planning board also approved another application related to the Les Lapins Hotel sanctioning the elimination of the basement level.

Architect Ray Demicoli explained that they had tried to build a semi-basement but it was going to be extremely difficult particularly because of the sea-level.
