Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon says Belarus can expect to suffer the backlash of Italian frustration after their World Cup qualifying defeat to Slovenia.

Saturday's 1-0 reverse in the European Group Five away match to the Slovenians was Italy's first setback in qualification after September's wins over Norway and Moldova.

The return game against the Belarussians is in Parma tomorrow.

"There is always a reaction after defeats like this, there is no doubt about that," the Juventus keeper told Italian media yesterday.

"Against Belarus we want to run them ragged, not just beat them. We want to show people what we are capable of and to regain a bit of faith."

Italy's key player Francesco Totti has come in for plenty of criticism after a disappointing performance against Slovenia, his first outing for the Azzurri after his ban for spitting at Euro 2004.

Buffon said he had told Totti that the game against Belarus was the perfect opportunity for him to answer his critics and put the incident behind him.

"I told Francesco that he needs to help us hammer them on Wednesday, because he is a great player, one of a kind and he can help us.

"In Portugal he made a mistake and he paid for it. Now he has to win a few games for us," Buffon said.

Italy coach Marcello Lippi is expected to shuffle his pack again with Palermo striker Luca Toni possibly replacing Alberto Gilardino in attack.

Lazio's Massimo Oddo is favourite to replace the suspended Daniele Bonera at right-back.
