Mosta chalked up their second successive victory in the BOV Premier League this season as Enrico Piccioni’s men needed a late goal from Daniel Mariano Bueno to tame a brave Pieta Hotspurs side 1-0 at the National Stadium.

It was a harsh result on the Hotspurs who had created the better chances throughout the match.

In fact the Premier League newcomers were the better side in the first half.
On 36 minutes, in a quick break, Luke Micallef sped past Mosta defender Adrian Borg and surged into the area. The Pietá youngster elected to shoot instead of passing to the better-positioned Gabriel but his effort flew wide.

Two minutes from the break, the Hotspurs threatened again when Jurgen Pisani’s shot was blocked by his team-mate Leonoardo Fortunato who avoided his marker before hitting a low shot that rolled wide.

Pieta remained the better side on the restart and Fortunato almost put them ahead four minutes into the second half when he latched onto Christian Grech pass but headed wide with only Omar Borg to beat.

But it was Mosta who struck on 73 minutes when substitute James Brincat made inroads on the right flank before teeing up the sprinting Bueno whose deflected shot flew past Cassar.

Pieta almost saved the match on 83 minutes when Claudio Frances sped past three defenders before picking up the unmarked Malcolm Licari whose firm drive came off the upright.

Pieta defender Leonardo Fortunato was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
