Argentina were crowned champions of the Budweiser Cup International Championship after beating the United Arab Emirates 1-0 at the Giants Stadium in the US.

The Budweiser Cup six-on-six football championship was open for recreational football players from all over the world. Hacienda Bar of St Julians represented Malta after winning a qualifying tournament in June.

Hacienda Bar's participation kicked off with a good 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in the quarter-finals. After losing to England, the Maltese side seemed en route to victory over Mexico as they took a 2-0 lead but the latter hit back to turn the tables on Hacienda, winning 3-2. A victory from this match would have enabled Hacienda to qualify for the semi-finals.

At the end of the tournament, the members of the teams were given tickets to watch the Man.United-Juve match at the Giants Stadium. Apart from Malta, the other participating sides hailed from Argentina, the UAE, England, Guam, Italy, Mexico, N. Ireland and the US.
