Malta Enterprise has launched Gateway to Export, the programme pledged in the Budget to encourage micro and small enterprises to export.
Gateway to Export aims to provide support and training so that export becomes a regular operation forparticipating businesses.
It offers a structured but flexible programme which enterprises are expected to complete in about 18 months. Firms will be assessed on skills they already possess and then provided with the training and ongoing support they need to succeed in overseas markets.
The programme is targeted towards a number of sectors, particularly those identified in Vision 2015 – manufacturing, creative services, ICT, tourism, transportation and logistics, health services and life sciences, financial services, and education andtraining.
Programme benefits include a flexible approach that meets the specific needs of micro and small enterprises, and a clear focus on capacitybuilding and guidance to make the company export-ready.
Gateway to Export provides investment in training and the upgrading of present quality standards, the development of a greater awareness for overseas opportunities, and a targeted emphasis on business development and growth.
To be eligible, companies need to have 50 employees or fewer, an annual turnover under €10 million, and export sales at less than 20 per cent of turnover, if any.
Applications filed with Malta Enterprise will be verified and a letter of approval issued to selected participants.
