The Local Councils Association has welcomed measures announced in the Budget speech on Monday to help local councils, particularly the increase in funding of €4 million.
Association president Michael Cohen said that work carried out with Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said appeared to be yielding results.
It was encouraging that the budget included a €4 million increase in funding for the councils, as well as initiatives for the sustainable development of localities, including the Local Council Green Challenge Award, the Local Council Enterprise Support Award Scheme (which features tax credits for investment made by businesses) and the €300,000 Co-financing Fund to help local councils apply for projects financed by the EU.
Mr Cohen said this was a positive message which shuld encourage local councils in their efforts to improve their localities in the service of their residents.
