Two brothers were yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to grievously injuring a person during an argument over money.

Clayton Azzopardi, 27, from St Paul’s Bay, and Dylan Azzopardi, 22, from Marsascala, denied holding Luke Vella against his will, assaulting him and causing grievous bodily harm.

The elder brother was also accused of breaking the conditions of a previous sentence.

Mr Vella reportedly suffered head fractures and required hospital treatment.

Sources said the incident was about money, some €5,000, which a woman owed two men. On Saturday morning, the woman’s son was cornered, bound and beaten up.

He was then placed into their car and thrown onto the street in Żabbar.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli turned down a request for bail until witnesses have testified.

Police Inspectors Robert Said Sarreo and Paula Ciantar prosecuted.
