Two brothers were this morning remanded in custody after they pleaded not guilty to attempting to seriously injure three police officers, threatening to kill them and relapsing.

24-year-old Steven Farrugia and his 19-year-old brother Nicholas, both of Zurrieq, were involved in a fight early this morning at tal-Werqa Band Club in Qormi (St George). The fight started at the Bocci Club.

Police inspector Joseph Agius told the court that PS Dionysius Agius, PC Mario Caruana and PC Shaun Debono were each hit with a glass bottle at different times during this fight.

The three policemen had gone to the bocci club to investigate a fight between a young couple and while they were they, a report of the fight the brothers' were involved in was received at the police station. So the three officers were asked to go there.

Inspector Agius said that one of the accused also broke a glass door at the local police station while hand cuffed.

Assistant commissioner Neville Aquilina told the court that these type of incidents were taking place repeatedly

They were very serious as policemen were getting injured when trying to do their jobs.
