Friday saw more medals for Malta in the Mediterranean Championships in Crete where, after Sue Abela's gold medal in the women's singles, she scooped a bronze in doubles along with partner Tiziana Carannante.
After a shaky start in the singles, Carannante registered an excellent 1,143 over six games. Abela rolled 1,189 to bring the team tally up to 2,332 and putting the team in third place.
The women's doubles was won by France (2,396) ahead of Italy.
The Maltese did not fare so well in the men's doubles.
Paul Baldacchino and Dennis Mercieca placed seventh from nine teams. The Italians took first place and silver went to Cyprus.
In the 4-Bowler Team event, which started on Friday and completed yesterday morning, Malta managed a fifth place with a six-game total of 4,633.
The honours went to Turkey (4,808), ahead of France and Cyprus.
The cumulative individual scores decided the 'All Events' standings for the finals. Abela was first among the women but Carannante missed out on qualification, finishing in 10th place.
Mercieca also finished 10th while Baldacchino placed 17th.
