Briton Paul Ivan Woods, 57, a resident of St Paul's Bay, is to be extradited at the request of the British authorities who would like to try him for allegedly twice raping a teenaged girl.

The extradition request was made by Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court and Mr Woods was arrested in Malta on the strength of a European Arrest Warrant.

The Magistrates' Court was told this afternoon that the Briton is alleged to have raped a girl, then aged under 16 in 1991 and 1994.

His defence lawyer, Noel Bianco, said Mr Woods agreed to be extradited.
